Best Horror Movies

Horror MoviesI've always been a huge fan of the best horror movies. As a kid, I couldn't wait for "Dimension 13" on Friday nights and would watch in horror as monsters marched across the screen, devouring the unsuspecting. As an adult, I prefer the spooky and eerie over the light and romantic. It's weird, but I'm sure other horror fans can relate.

I find those films based on a ghost story to be the best horror movies. In fact, of all the creepy, scary movies available, ghost movies have a tendency to reach deep down and scare me more than even the bloodiest, goriest of the others. There's something about a menacing, unseen force that grips my attention and really makes me squirm. And movies like The Ring, Shutter, and The Grudge are some of my favorites.

By the way, for lazy people like me or for people on a budget, there are a couple ways you can watch horror movies without having to spend a fortune or even get out of your pajamas.

The fist service is Amazon on demand movies. Again, cheaper than Blockbuster and available at home without leaving the house, they have a great selection of horror movies, which you can see here. You know these guys and probably already know their service is great.

The second, believe it or not, is Netflix. I actually ditched Graboid and all the other online services I had and tried the Netflix free trial. I discovered that their service made me quite happy and here's why:

1. You can sign up and get started right away. You don't have to go anywhere or pay any money to get started.

2. This is a mail order video service that also offers online streaming video you can get on your computer any time night or day. These are legitimate, full-length movies of high quality. One flat rate and you can watch as many streaming movies as you want. Of course, you can also get DVDs by mail, too. They all come to you, so you don't have to go out.

3. They keep track of what you like and dislike and make suggestions on titles you might not have thought of. This service is amazing because they really seem to "get you" and what types of movies you enjoy. It's pretty accurate.

4. They have thousands and thousands of titles, so it's not easy to get bored.

5. What's really cool, is you can watch these streaming movies on your TV, not just on your computer, so they are really cleaning up on the competition. If you have a Wii, then you're all set. They'll send you a DVD to get started. Then all your streaming movies come right to your television. This is what makes them better than any service out there and why Netflix is currently my favorite movie source.

So in case my reviews get you in the mood, you now have two ways to get your movie immediately without having to get up, start the car and fight traffic to your local video store.

But I digress. Back to the reviews.

Horror movies have gone through quite an evolution over the past few decades and I've been watching right along. In the 80's were the slasher flicks featuring serial killers like Jason and Michael Meyers. Then along came the not-so-imaginary dream host, Freddy Krueger who would tear you to shreds while you slept. Then came virus movies like 28 Days Later and Quarantine. And my least favorite, torture flicks. Saw, Touristas and Vacancy have their fans, of course, but I still prefer a ghost movie.

At any rate, I love horror movies. I'm providing reviews so in the event you don't know what to watch, maybe I can help you find something.

I intend to provide horror movie clips if available, so you can get a sneak peek at each film along with its review. Please feel free to add your own comments and ratings if you've had a chance to view one of these movies.

I have always loved this movie. And while the 1999 remake with Catherine Zeta Jones was "okay" by my standards, the orginal was much, much better.

Sometimes, when you grown up, the cheesy things you loved as a kid end up being important. Evil Dead is like that.

It's cheesy. It's bad.
