I enjoyed reading your story. I've read many others like it. There are other types of locations like military bases, air ports, US Navy bases and ships, aircraft, submarines, sometimes police stations. The people that work in these kinds of occupations while on duty or not are no nonsense, logical, analytical people. What happens when these kind of people start seeing what appears to be fellow personnel that go around corners, or other dead-end aisles and simply vanish? After enough people have reluctantly reported seeing these things, they are in some fashion recognized as residents of a supernatural sort. One case I recall involved a commercial airline. Due to a pilot error, all aboard the aircraft died when it crashed into a swamp. Some parts of the wreck were salvaged and put into service in other aircraft. Two of the pilots, and an engineer (all dead) started appearing on these other aircraft routinely and even interacted with other personnel..., scared some people pretty good! All of this was documented. The salvaged parts were taken out of service and the hauntings stopped. I like the stories that are documented.

My True Ghost Story by: Anonymous
I believe you saw a ghost. Last night, I was asleep in my boyfriend's bed. I woke up suddenly from a bad dream. It was pitch dark in the room. I looked to my right and felt next to me to see if my boyfriend was by my side. He was not there, because it was around 5:30 in the morning, and he has already left for work. By his closet door, I saw a person, and a lot of blue. I could not make out the face clearly because I did not have my contacts in. However, I was very confident that I saw a girl wearing what looked like blue pajamas and was about 7 feet from the bedroom door. I said in a loud voice "Ryan, Ryan" (My boyfriend's name, knowing that the girl ghost looked nothing like anyone who lived in the house. The ghost then halfway turned and looked at me, as if she was startled by my voice. I looked for about 10 more seconds, to make sure it wasn't just my imagination...Then I ran out of the bedroom door scared to death. I know what I saw was real and this was the first time this has happened to me. Therefore, I now can definitely relate to people who had experiences with seeing ghosts.

connection by: maggie
I'm sure you have thought of many things but have you tried to find the connection between you and the other person who saw this ghost. It hasn't shown itself to many people from what I,ve read so maybe there is something directly related to you or her that that it felt the need to show itself. Have you both tried to go there together and see what comes about? There are alot of questions that you need to ask yourself {which I'm sure you have but then again it could be that you were just at the right place at the right time. Many people look for this everyday and if it's not a bad thing for you {in the sense that you feel threatened]then maybe there is something special about you that it felt the need to show itself. As said before, try to talk with it the next time, maybe you can help. Good luck.

Believe in Yourself by: RhapSody
My suggestion is that you believe in yourself and try not to write it off as something you can explain as normal. Having experienced similiar experiences, I tried finding logical reasons for things I thought I saw or explain away things I heard. It's only fooling yourself because of the fear of others not believing you. You can't look to others for approval in matters like this because there are too many varied opinions. Some think and agree others, disagree. Do not allow the negative few outweigh the positive many. Trust your own gut feelings and if at all possible, set about to see if there is some way to cap an event on film or EVP. Bottom line, you can't please everyone's opinion in matters of the paranormal so you just have to believe in yourself and what you think you saw.....most likely, you did see it or hear it. Accept the fact that there is some things that can't be explained and then consider yourself as a bit lucky for being fortunate to have had such an exciting, if frightening, experience. Not everyone has that opportunity.

I totally agree with Danni. Your sixth sense gets more sensetive when your alone. I also have a very sensetive sixth sense. It sometimes comes in very handy. By the way, ghosts do exist. Theres no denying it. They're all around us. Whether they're good or bad, we have to learn to live with them and accept them.

Or maybe take a few pics in the area you or the other officer saw him. If you get anymore in fo please post it on this website. Good luck. You'll need it!

I know what you mean. I don't live around there but I honestly beleive you. I've read some things that say some ghosts just wander aimlessly, but I don't know what it has to do with you. I've seen some ghosts around my house and I often get the feeling I'm being watched. If I were you I'd go back and check it out. I've heard a lot of ghost stories and I am a true believer. My friends also make fun of me because I believe, but some have the same feelings. I'm just aLong Island kid but I do truly believe.

sixth sense by: Danni
You saw a ghost. Notice how you and your friend saw it when you were alone. You would be suprised are your sixth sense becomes very sensetive when you are alone. All these stories that you read and hear, they all see the ghosts when they are alone or everyone else is sleeping. You cannot help it, it is part of your body's chemistry that you sixth sense is very sensetive when you are alone. I have a very sensetive sixth sense, I can hardly tell who is real and who is dead somtimes. Everyone has a sixth sense, some are just more developed or sensetive than others. If you felt calm when you saw it then you have nothing to fear, If you felt scared when you first saw it then that ghost is there to do you harm!

An update on the library. by: Anonymous
Well now where that sighting was seen it is very busy and filled with the living 24/7. The 5th level is now a computer lab and even at 3am there are always several students on computers, and staffed with a security officer.
Another officer advised me that months ago a house keeper advised him of unusual occurrences. Chairs being moved around. When the house keepers clean they put the chairs on top of the tables. This house keeper stated that a few times he found the chairs put back down on the floor knowing that he was the only one working on some of the nights it happened.
The house keeper even joked about it saying, that the occurrences save him the labor and if the ghost would be kind enough to empty trash cans and clean toilets he would consider putting it on the payroll.
All jokes aside, he was serious about the chairs being moved around.
As stated before I don't know what happens now with all the activity in the library now.

Hi Officer. It might be a spirit. It perhaps wanted to tell you something or maybe wanted something from you.Or maybe it had some kinda relation with the library. Now,you keep praying to God to help you and have faith in him.Keep a mini bible with you or a small crucifix with the next time you go there if you wish. And oh do take a person along with you as a witness. Please report back of what happened at this site.I promise to pray to God to help you.Good luck!

You've written a very interesting article. Law Enforcement personnel usually make very credible witnesses.
As a paranormal investigator I believe you may have an active haunting on that floor of the library. I don't believe for even one second that it is in anyway demonic, however this spirit does indeed appear to have unfinished business. The path taken and followed by the female officer may be a clue as to what that unfinished business is. It also appears that the entity does not want to frighten you (i.e. not demonic).
I would suggest you acquire a tape recorder (digital is best) and ask the entity questions as to what his need is. It may feel weird to talk to thin air but believe me this method works.
You may also want to contact a reputable ghost hunting group in your area. Consult the TAPS people for a trustworthy source. Good luck!

Be careful what you believe... by: Anonymous
You thought you saw a ghost? You have to be very careful though because what you saw (and heard) wasn't. I don't know how religious you are but clearly, this was a demon. What is very interesting about demons is that they try to scare you, they feed on fear. They love it. They'll do anything to cause you to loose all hope and peace. Demons take advantage of people and disguise themselves as (sometimes) loved ones or ghostly figures just to trick you. Now I'm a very experienced Demonoligist. You may not be religious but the best way to get rid of a demon is by the power of God. God really scares the crap out of demons. You may not want to do exorcisms or use crucifixes. It only encourages them because anything that is superstitious or related to rituals only encourages them. Next time try not to show any fear or weaknesses. If you're okay with it, pray. Or just let God handle the situation. Believe me, it'll work. I've taken care of eighteen demons in different places only using Christ's name.

Similiar Cop Stories by: Devlin
My father who had been Chief of Police in Pottsboro for 23 years had conversed with his other police officers. Three kids of his (us) had over heard them. We lived in a very small town, a lot of deaths in wrecks over the years and some even paranormally odd experiences on the one highway that runs through the small town, which seems to be the only road that leads out and in to Texoma Lake. The city board had fire a police officer because he wrapped his police car around a light pole. They asked him what he was chasing since he said he was in pursuit. He said the car just vanished into thin air when it swerved and he thought he was going to hit the car head on in the middle of the road. That happened at around 3 in the morning. My father had told his police officers that if they saw a red small Mazda racing through town, not to chase it down.

saw its appearance see if there are any books that stand out or anything if you still patrol that library the next time you feel watched ask what does it want why is it still here and ask for the spirit to make it clear. well, hope this helps

It's still frightening to have something like this happen by: RhapSody
You're going to find people who will not believe you, NO MATTER WHAT! It's like, saying that they believe you saw what you saw would make it a reality for them too, so, they end up telling you you're crazy or seeing things. The only way some would believe is to have it happen to them, then, I'm still not so certain they would believe it.

Maybe this 5% of what you saw was a spirit of someone who couldn't leave this world in peace. It prob. has a memory that it can't get rid of, and I'd try to respect that. If you see it again, just stay calm, ask it a couple questions as to why it is there. But say it politely. lol. If there is no answer, just ignore.
[I'd totally be too scared to do that, but since you seem to be a brave officer, I believe you can do it.]

I don't really care to go in there alone, but of course I do when I have to. As I have previously stated there are housekeeping employees cleaning the building Mon-Fri. If something goes on in the building that needs police, they are the first to call, hence why it really isn't necessary to patrol inside it 5 days out of the week, not to mention it is alarmed on the two days no ones inside at night.
I have mentioned in my original post that supposedly another library is haunted on campus, but I have seen or felt nothing.
If you live in the southwest Ohio area, and have read my posts, then you can figure out where I'm talking about.
If anyone has additional questions to ask me feel free to post them here, and I'll try to answer them when I get notified via my e-mail.

Just a little advice: avoid the libary as much as you can, but if it is necessary to go into it, don't be scared. That may increase the chance of him coming back, and I'm not too sure you want that.

You're not alone by: anonymous
After reading your story I felt that I had to comment. I attended college in ****ns, Ohio and we have many similar happenings. ****ns [name removed to protect property] is considered one of the most haunted towns in Ohio, and my college is considered the most haunted in the country. There are so many haunted buildings as so many realistic stories its hard not to believe that their true. My encounter with one occured a few years ago. I was in a building on campus that is probably the most known for being haunted. It is known among students that it was built on a cemetary of a local abandonded, haunted mental institution. It's rumored among students that there were many student suicedes. When a friend and I were walking down the hall entering the Hall a dark, solid looking male figure brushed past her and her books dropped out of her hands so we both bent down to collect them. The figure just stood there watching us collect the books. She turned to see who knocked her and no one was there. The hallway was short and had only one large set of doors. The figure would have had to walk right in front of us to leave and the doors are old oak and make a lot of noise when they are opened or close. The figure just vanished then back of the hallway was a dead end and led no where. Many other students have had much scarier occurances than I, but many of the southern schools in Ohio are. I felt compelled to share with you that you're not alone.

I know you must be scared, and geez, who would blame you. It doesn't seem likely that a student would be in the buildings after hours, I'm a student at a University in Illinois and it's just not worth the risk/fine to be caught somewhere when it's closed. I also don't think it would have been an officer, I mean, that's probably not a very funny trick and definetly not worth one's job...I think what you saw may have been a spirit. I don't agree with what the media has defined a ghost as, the whole transparent thing. If a ghost wants to be solid...it's going to be, right? My advice, probably just avoid the library, for your personal sanity. You don't want to put yourself in a position where you are scared for no reason, that's just silly. I believe you, but I also think, if it was watching you...maybe it was for a reason and you might not want to p-ss it off...

Some other info... by: Anonymous
I am the one who posted the original incident. I appreciate your comments. Some things I would like to say since this is posted.
The reason I didn't give specific names of the university and library is because of various reasons. Them being reputation, (my last name is on this.) I'm trying not to lure the wrong type of people who think it is ok to break into a building, (I'm of course not saying any of you would ever do that, but I'm cautious by nature.)
Yes it is a public library, and you can be there during regular hours, however if people are walking around the library taking pictures, I guarantee someone will call, well...us on you. Remember we live in a post 911 time and people tend to get nervous when they see people taking pictures inside of public areas.
If you really want to see the area for yourself, it doesent take a genius to know which library I'm talking about by the info that is in the incident. There really is nothing creepy about the building, (when open). It's a fairly modern setting in a large building built in the 1970's. If I have the time, I may take some pictures of the areas in the library. There are only two nights that the building is without housekeepers and the lights are off, and the alarms are on.
One thing you may find interesting, since the 9 years Iv'e worked there we have never had homeless people trying to live of hide there to sleep, (we have hed them in other building on campus). However, there was a student a few years ago that fell asleep while studying and the security guard didn't see her. She woke up to a dark empty library. She called 911 for someone to help her get out.

Great Story by: Lucky 13
Now that would have to be an experience of a lifetime!!!
I am not a professional ghost hunter by any means, but it is a hobby of mine, and have just spent last Sat. night at the haunted Willard Library in Evansville IN.
I agree with Shawn about trying to get some evidence by setting up equipment and trying to get EVP's, video, and pictures.(EVP's are Electronic Voice Phenomena... Recordings of voices that can't be heard by human ears, only by picking the voices up electronically.)
What you and your co worker have visually experienced is called a full bodied apparition. Some of them do appear to be very human like.
While in the presence of high EMF's (Electromagnetic Field's), which occur when a spirit is trying to take shape, the feelings of being watched, and hair standing up on the back of your neck, are very common. Some people get physically ill, light headed, nausea, headaches when this is taking place.
Also ghost do not always take on a form that is non transparent. They can indeed form and be transparent, they can float, and can move around very quickly. I don't know how scientific this is, but I am a believer that a ghost will manifest itself on the power around it. Maybe the reason you saw him so clearly, is because the computer was on, and he was using energy off of that, don't know, but even Taps will say that they will feed off of, and drain camera batteries, which has indeed happened to me a few times.
I have a friend that had lived in a home that she witnessed a woman coming up her steps, while she was lying in bed. The woman floated, did not have feet and traveled very quickly. She turned into her children's bedroom, who were not home at the time, and scattered their toys everywhere, without her hearing a thing.
Spirits can also be seen as orbs, and mists, shadow beings and be felt as a breeze. They can make themselves know in many ways also and include, but not limited to, scents, moving/throwing objects, unexplained shadows, controlling light's, turning on faucets, opening and closing doors and windows, and can do personal harm to a person if they feel they need to.
As for the location of this University, and there not being any information of hauntings there, but at another college, it could be the ghost is there, from before the building's existence. The ghost may have nothing what-so-ever to do with the school. It could be the man passed at a location near the school. What I have been told by some very reliable people is that a ghost will be at it's haunt for one of 3 reasons. It's attracted to the location, a person, or an object. The location will not change, no matter what kind of building you put up.
Ok enough of my jibberish, it's past my bedtime. If you have any questions I am sure that I can help find the answers for you, through some of the people I know that take ghosts pretty seriously. Take Care!~Lucky 13

Interesting!! by: Shawn of the Dead
I would have to say YES, You have seen a ghost! The BS ghosts are the ones said to be blurry lights, misty-looking figures. The real ones look like people and are not transparent! There are also shadow figures that are real ghosts too.
My advice to you is have the library set up some video cameras in the computer room. There are systems you can set up cheaply $$ with hard drive video.
You officers can do some investigating of your own on your downtime in the computer room. Try using a hand-held digital audio recorder and ask the spirit questions then pause, then ask more questions then pause between questions allowing the spirit to answer. When you play the recorder back, you may get answers. If you do, call some paranormal investigators in your area like T.A.P.S.
